  • For the Love of Food

On our honeymoon trip to Nova Scotia my new husband and I wanted to eat all the fresh fish we could; and we did. We ate fresh off the boat lobster, clams, haddock, cod, scallops, mussels and crab two times a day for two solid weeks!!!

When our order arrived to our table we would stare with a look of wonder at how beautiful our fresh caught food looked, snap a picture and then rave to our waitress or waiter how wonderful and delicious it was. The funny thing was our waiters and waitresses claimed they hardly ever ate the fish and several not at all. WHAT???? How could this be?

  • Child Hunger

This throwback Thursday story from 2007 is reminder of the importance of our farmers for food, good people and God’s blessings…..

  • Holiday fun for the artistically challenged!

Every year I feel like a bull in a china shop. I've tried baking all the cute little decorated cookies and followed Martha Stewart's directions on package wrapping but end up with non describable edibles and more tape on me than on my gifts. I've come to the realization that I'm not crafty nor artistic.

  • Thank A Cranberry Farmer

This time of year fresh cranberries are in the stores and this is a great way  to enjoy them. They are tart, sweet and a hit with everyone I've shared them with. I found this recipe on 101 Cookbooks several years ago.

Fun Farm Fact about cranberries...Wisconsin is the largest cranberry producer in the US followed by Massachusetts!

  • Let us Stop Bullying!

Thank A Farmer was created when I heard of farm kids being bullied in their schools. They were being made fun of by the way they dressed and what they did. Growing up in Chicago I knew kids living the city never learned the importance of farmers so Thank A Farmer was created to do just that. The goal is to have a Thank A Farmer Day in every school across our nation, so regardless if you grow up in the city or a rural area you'll learn how important farmers and the culture of agriculture are at a early age.

  • The reason and purpose of Thank A Farmer.

Traveling across the country and living out of suitcases and hotel rooms, 6-8 months out of the year isn't easy but there is a reason. That reason is to try and gain respect for some of the most important people in our lives...the farmer. I discovered that reason by hearing about farm kids being looked down upon and teased by their classmates. That is when Thank A Farmer was born.

  • It takes a village

A physical version of "Are you kidding me?" is the eye roll. It's not something I do externally but I have done it internally when talking to people about farming and the food we eat. I do it more than I like and it's gotten to the point that I'm ecstatic if the people I'm talking to have some right information!
